A detailed position description is available upon request The Resource Production area within the Educational Resources Branch produces, catalogues and circulates educational alternate format resources (ex. Braille, tactile materials, large print books, e-texts and audio) for students with print disabilities in the K-12 and post-secondary systems and provides all cataloguing services for the Instructional Resources Unit. Qualifications: Essential: Certification in Unified English Braille (UEB) transcription as recognized by the International Council on English Braille (ICEB) or an equivalent combination of experience and training Experience producing, proofreading and editing UEB braille material Experience using braille transcription software such as Duxbury or similar software Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop strong working relationships with colleagues in a team environment Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and complete work within timelines in an environment with changing demands Excellent verbal communication skills Excellent written communication skills Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy Desired: Experience in transcription of UEB technical material Experience creating tactile diagrams to replace educational graphics Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) ADOBE Suite and Corel Draw or equivalent software applications Experience with using equipment for production of braille material such as braille embossers, scanners and thermoform machines. Duties: As a Braille Transcriber/Tactile Specialist, the primary function of this position is to create, edit, store and print alternate format resources for students who use braille. This position also uses braille production software and specialized equipment and production methods to produce complex two-dimensional graphs, charts, diagrams and maps to replace educational graphics for students.
